We haven’t even seen Avengers star Jeremy Renner make his franchise début in the upcoming Bourne Legacy yet, but the film’s producer suggests a future sequel could see Renner team up with Matt Damon!

Empire sat down with producer Frank Marshall for their cover feature on the upcoming espionage film, and he revealed some interesting tidbits about the prospects for a potential fifth entry.

“He’s coming from a completely different background to Jason [Bourne]. He knows exactly who he is; he signed up to this…He wants to be part of a team. I can tell you he was in the military then he joined the programme. He’s a person who wants to be part of something… to have a sense of purpose. But then it’s taken away.”

Most intriguingly of all, producer Frank Marshall says, “You see there are several different programmes in the movie with different skill sets. All possibilities are open. My dream is that in the next one we see Matt and Jeremy team up.”

Perhaps Marshall is getting a little ahead of himself here, since no one has any idea how the Matt Damon-less Bourne will fare with Jeremy Renner as the lead character. Although if the box office of his previous movies Mission Impossible 4 and Avengers are anything to go by, Damon and Renner could be assembling their own super-spy team sooner then we thought.

Would you like to see Matt Damon return to the franchise?
