Fire with Fire, the second novel in the Burn for Burn trilogy, begins where the last book left off, with Lillia, Kat, and Mary dealing with the consequences of their revenge scheme.

In Burn for Burn, we saw Lillia, Kat, and Mary form an unlikely friendship. The glue to their relationship was getting even with Alex, Rennie, and Reeve. And while their plan came together, you couldn’t say it went off without a hitch.

With Reeve in the hospital and more than a few misconceptions cleared up, all the three girls want to do is move on and make sure they aren’t pinned down for having drugged the star football player.

The only problem is that once you’ve gone for revenge, it’s all too easy to do it again.

This time, Kat and Lillia come to Mary’s rescue, and they’ve got one thing on their mind — getting a final revenge on Reeve for everything he had done to Mary when she was younger.

While they plan and scheme just like before, Mary continues to struggle with the new things she’s learned about herself. If only she knew the worst has yet to come.

Review: ‘Fire with Fire’

Fire with Fire continues the story of Lillia, Kat, and Mary as they live with the consequences of what happened at homecoming. Each one feels guilt for different reasons, but when Mary asks them to help her exact revenge on Reeve, they’re back to their old ways.

While Fire with Fire deals with much of the same issues as Burn for Burn, it doesn’t feel like a repeat of the last novel. The plots are more complex, as are the relationships between the six main characters. Hearts and hopes alike are broken as relationships are destroyed and stitched back together in the blink of an eye.

As with the previous book in the trilogy, it’s hard to pick a side to be on. You feel for Lillia, Kat, and Mary, but the ones they plot against feel like real people too. They cry and show regret, and that makes it difficult to decide whether or not you want the main trio to succeed in their revenge.

By the end of the book, however, one person stands out above the rest as having gone too far. With the explosive ending to Fire with Fire, we can’t wait to find out what happens in the concluding novel, Ashes to Ashes.
