Bones meets The Wolf of Wall Street tonight and it’s a bit boring.

After a particularly not-child friendly murder discovery open, we switch to the Booth household. Booth and Bones are discussing chores for Christine when the little princess drops a gateway swearword. (Let it be known that this isn’t nearly as funny as I had hoped it would be.) The dead body calls them away and they decide to deal with it later.

The murder of the week is pretty straightforward. Booth and Aubrey head over to the office and find out that our murder victim is a hedge fund guy who works at a firm run by a toned-down version of Leo from this past winter’s hit. After talking to a co-worker who suffered the most at a deal done wrong by our vic, they find evidence that points to an address that happens to be another co-worker’s house. Unfortunately for him Booth and Aubrey show up during a party. A party that consists of hookers and cocaine. Partay.

Turns out our loving husband was a cheater and a druggy. The wife is freaking out, her husband took care of EVERYTHING and she doesn’t know how to change a light bulb let alone take care of financials. The guys bring in the hooker who was occupying our guy’s last night and find out that he owed her quite a bit of money. She took his valuables as collateral because he said he could get her the money.

They find the murder weapon is the boss’ desk corner and arrest the boss. Only trouble is that he was with his own female paid friend and has an alibi. His head was repeatedly smashed into the corner of the desk so it had to be someone very strong. The evidence leads back to the earlier interviewed co-worker who lost money in a deal gone wrong. He didn’t understand why the victim wasn’t a team player and had to teach him a lesson. Riiiight.

This week’s character growth has two stories: Dr. Wells and Aubrey. Wells is determined to beat Brennan at being the best forensic anthropologist, to which she declares he can try but he won’t win. The whole episode is him trying to solve the case before she does. Guess who wins. Hint: It’s not Wells. Bones finds the key evidence and while she doesn’t rub it in his face, she doesn’t not rub it in his face.

The other character who gets the emotional growth is Aubrey. Turns out Aubrey’s father stole millions of dollars and fled the country and abandoned Aubrey and his mother. After not handling the wife of the murdered victim very well, he apologizes to Booth and takes himself out of the active part of the case. Brennan later goes and talks with him and it’s actually good. She knows what it’s like to be abandoned by parents, even though her’s did it for her own good. She tells him that trying to forget it won’t help, he must accept it and only then can he move on and heal.

The episode ends with Christine still swearing, this time at Brennan. The look on Booth’s face is pretty priceless. All in all, a pretty boring episode. Hopefully next week is more exciting!
