Did last night’s Bones tug at the your heartstrings more than usual? Find out more below!

Well that was an emotional drain. I don’t know about you guys, but that was a lot to process and watch. I’ll do my best to detail as much as possible. It’s probably easier to start with the case of the week since it took up so much of the episode.

After an uncomfortable morning talk with Arastoo (we will get to that), Cam is saved by a phone call to a crime scene. The body turns out to a Chinese house worker. We soon find out from her employer, Sandra Zins that her name is Theresa and she is extremely upset and offers to help with any funeral arrangements. Theresa or Ming Yun works for a company fronted by another Chinese immigrant, Mr. Lee and he points them to someone who Ming Yun did housework for as well.

The guy is a registered sex offender and he made advances that were obviously rejected. He does give them the bus that Ming Yun took to and from work. After some science facts during Cam’s autopsy they are able to find the house where she was staying. Turns out it belongs to the boss of the company she works for, Mr. Lee. Another shocker? He has a whole underground hatch filled with Chinese immigrants that are clearly being mistreated.

We now welcome back our friend from the State department, Alex Radziwill, who is less annoying this time and much more sympathetic to the dozen or more illegal immigrants. This is also where the story gets a bit confusing. The girls use Tammy, another girl like Ming Yun, to be their representative to talk to Booth.

The illegals are involved in human trafficking and are being told that they must do whatever Lee tells them or their families they left behind will be punished. It’s a very moving scene and I can’t really do it justice. Aubrey goes from wanting to land a big case/win to wanting to help these women and while he doesn’t really interact with any other team members there is some personal growth, so that’s something.

There is still a murder to solve and a picture the victim was carrying leads to Sung Dae, who is wanted for murder back in his village. Turns out he is engaged to Ming Yun and killed her father because he was abusing her. He came to America under a similar company that she did and of course it wasn’t what he was told. Ming Yun was supposed to wait for him to send for her but she couldn’t wait any more so she came looking for him.

Brennan, with Angela’s help, discovers that a nail instrument used in manicures was the murder weapon. Unfortunately Tammy works at a nail salon. The poor woman is distraught. Turns out Ming Yun kept trying to escape at night and Lee would punish her. The last time this happened he threatened all the other women’s family if she escaped. Tammy tried to stop her for leaving and ended up killing her to protect her family. Again, it’s another heartbreaking scene and was very hard to watch.

On the non-case related side: Cam is getting emails from Arastoo’s mother and he mentions marriage as a “when” possibility just as Cam says “if.” Yikes. Another wrench in their happy status is Arastoo’s dissertation proposal being rejected. Cam goes to Brennan behind his back and Brennan states that she expects more from him if she is to be his mentor. Arastoo later gets the same info and also finds out Cam talked to Bones. Not too happy.

Arastoo gets the insight from Brennan that he needs to change his dissertation proposal and seemingly moves on. He later tells Cam that her going behind his back and her reluctance to talk about marriage in any real way hurts him and it causes a major rift. Eventually they make up. It is refreshing to see the guy be the one pushing the marriage issue, though one must wonder why Cam doesn’t want to get married to a guy who so obviously does.
