Bones‘ latest villain Christopher Pelant (Andrew Leeds) returns with “The Corpse in the Canopy” as seen with new photos for Bones‘ eighth season.

As previously discussed, this episode will bring back the big bad from Bones‘ seventh season. In “The Corpse in the Canopy,” Pelant targets Angela (Michaela Conlin) and Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) as a way to announce his return as seen in the synopsis.

“After Hodgins and Angela were drugged and woke up to a bloody corpse hanging in the canopy of their bed and flower petals around their son Michael’s crib, they are forced to believe that Pelant is back for revenge against Hodgins. Although Hodgins wants to go after Pelant directly, Booth knows it’s best to work within the system and not go against protocol. Meanwhile, as the Jeffersonian team investigates the corpse, they discover the victim was a Special Forces agent working for the world’s biggest supplier of mercenaries, and Angela and Hodgins decide to start an investigation without the rest of the Jeffersonian team for the sake of their family.”

According to executive producer Hart Hanson in an interview with TV Fanatic, Pelant is there to mess with the Jeffersonian team. “Pelant is a deadly fellow. You get a sense of what his targets and desires are for our group. He does not like our gang. He does not like them because when they’re all together they’re smarter than he is and he doesn’t like that.”

Do you think Pelant is targeting Angela and Hodgins in order to get to Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz)? Are you glad that he’s returning? Do you think that Bones always needs a villain like Gormogon or Pelant in order to stay interesting?
