With Danny Boyle out as director for Bond 25, and the search for his replacement underway, former Bond writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have been tapped to write a new script.

Boyle, who left Bond 25 due to creative differences, had also written a script for the now-delayed 25th installment in the Bond franchise. That script has now been scrapped, with Purvis and Wade being brought in to start over.

Purvis and Wade wrote the approved treatment for Bond 25, before Boyle was brought on board, and will likely write their script with that treatment as a basis.

The writing duo have been involved in the Bond movies dating back to Casino Royale, so there will be little doubt from MGM that Purvis and Wade will be a good fit for the latest entry in the series.

Per Variety, MGM had no comment on the news that Purvis and Wade had rejoined the Bond 25 project.

Additionally, sources previously told Variety that there was a high likelihood that the duo would return, due to “the trust that Purvis and Wade have garnered with all parties involved, including Craig. Insiders also add that even after the writing duo turns in a draft, there is a strong likelihood that whoever is brought on to direct will also give it a polish, seeing that Eon and MGM are looking for individuals with writing-directing backgrounds to take over the helming reins.”

Bond 25 is no longer going to meet its November 8, 2019 release date. A replacement date for the movie’s release has yet to be provided.
