Disney and Lucasfilm are officially putting their Boba Fett feature film on the back burner.

According to Deadline, the companies have decided not to move forward with previously announced plans to green light a Star Wars anthology film centered on famed bounty hunter, Boba Fett.

The untitled solo film, which was announced earlier this summer, would have seen James Mangold both writing and directing the project.

Instead, Disney and Lucasfilm have decided to shelve the project for the time being in an effort to focus their energy elsewhere.

Specifically, they’ll be turning their attention over to the the recently announced Star Wars series, The Mandalorian.

The show, which will debut via Disney’s upcoming streaming platform, is being written and executive produced by Jon Favreau and will serve as Star Wars’ first live-action series.

Favreau took to Instagram earlier this month to tease fans with an official synopsis for the series, which revealed that The Mandalorian will tell the story of a “lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy.”

Though there’s no denying the bounty hunter has become a fan favorite ever since he was briefly introduced in Empire Strikes Back, if Solo: A Star Wars Story has taught us one thing it’s that fans won’t flock to theaters solely based on a character’s popularity.

Additionally, news of a solo Boba Fett film was met with mixed reactions from fans online, so we doubt there’ll be many mourning the fact that the project has been shelved.

As for The Mandalorian, there’s currently no word on when the highly anticipated series will make its debut via Disney’s new streaming platform.
