A few more forthcoming Disney titles could be joining Artemis Fowl in bypassing the theaters and heading straight to Disney+.

It’s no secret by now that Disney, like many studios, have been hustling to shuffle their release slates around in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

And while some titles, like the highly anticipated live-action Mulan, have already landed new theatrical release dates, others such as the studio’s Artemis Fowl adaptation are bypassing the big screen altogether in favor of heading straight to Disney+.

Now Disney CEO Bob Iger is teasing that Artemis Fowl likely won’t be the last feature film to head straight to streaming, despite having been originally intended for a theatrical debut.

“In terms of movies going ahead after Artemis, there may be a few more that we ned up putting directly onto Disney+,” said Iger in a new interview with Barrons according to Dark Horizons. “But for the most part a lot of the big tentpole Disney films, we’ll simply wait for slots. In some cases we’ve announced new ones already, but later on in the calendar.”

With many theaters still closed indefinitely in light of the coronavirus, it makes sense that Iger and Disney are planning ahead beyond the titles they’ve already pushed back.

At the same time, it also makes sense that the studio would want to make sure larger titles such as Black Widow— or even Pixar’s Soul— still get the traditional theatrical release treatment.

Regardless, as we move forward, we’ll be curious to find out which of Disney’s other forthcoming titles follow in the footsteps of Artemis Fowl and wind up heading straight on over to Disney+.
