Disney’s Black Widow is the latest big screen movie event to delay its theatrical release date due to ongoing concerns about the coronavirus.

The next Marvel movie was set to debut in the United States on May 1, but now joins a slew of other films to push back its theatrical release date amid concerns about the spread of the coronavirus and its impact on overall profits.

The film is set to be the character’s first solo venture and is described by Marvel Studios as an action-packed spy thriller. Black Widow focuses on Natasha Romanoff (aka Black Widow) as she confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises.

Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

The film will be the first to come from Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff, Florence Pugh as her ‘sister’ and fellow Widow Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz as Melina.

Black Widow has not been given a new release date as of the announcement.

Black Widow joins the list of previously announced Disney films Mulan (previously scheduled to be released on Friday, March 27), Fox’s New Mutants (scheduled for April 3), and Antlers (scheduled for April 17) in being delayed due to concerns about coronavirus.

In addition to Disney delaying the theatrical release of its upcoming films, it has likewise delayed production on its live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid and its Disney+ productions of the Honey I Shrunk the Kids sequel starring Josh Gad and Rick Moranis, as well as the streamer’s upcoming Home Alone reboot.
