Black Siren and Dinah Drake may have been pitted against each other since Siren’s arrival, but now that they’re past this petty feud, perhaps there’s a chance these characters could shine together in Arrow season 7?

Arrow is, frankly, terrible at developing female characters. More so than the characters, the show has rivaled some of the very worst at developing friendships between the women.

During the later half of Arrow season 3, we finally saw a friendship blossom between Laurel and Felicity, but then everything went off-screen and we were just expected these characters had regular “girl talk” and were the closest female friends of the group.

Likewise, Laurel’s relationship with Thea was only around because of her relationship with Oliver and the time they spent together growing up, but the two barely shared a one-on-one scene together.

Unfortunately, Laurel is gone, but Black Siren (hereto referred to as Laurel for the rest of this piece because it’s so inexplicably complicated) is around and can potentially have the relationships with her fellow women that her doppelganger was never allowed to have.

While the new Laurel and Felicity would be an intriguing pairing, Felicity is torn up over Oliver being in prison and otherwise busy this season, but Dinah has a chance to stand up and become a true leader to Star City.

It’s unclear what position Dinah will have in Arrow season 7, but I wouldn’t doubt she’s made the Captain of the Star City Police Department since half of the city’s employees were imprisoned due to being in Diaz’s payroll. However, it’s been confirmed that Laurel will be the new District Attorney, so she’s definitely going to play an important part of the story going forward.

Both of these women have been placed in the background and rarely developed, but without Quentin guiding the growth of them both, there’s a chance for Laurel and Dinah to come together and help each other heal their wounds and move along with their lives.

Laurel is going to need a bit of time to adjust to being on the “good” side and educating herself on the justice system since she never actually went to law school (perks of having a doppelganger who did), and Dinah would be the prime candidate to help her with Quentin’s passing and Dinah’s familiarity with one side of the system.

Dinah is still learning the ropes as the Black Canary, and whether you like her as the heroine or not, that’s the path the show is taking, so why not introduce a heroic duo dynamic between the Black Canary and Black Siren?

Dinah and Laurel have very differing points of view on certain things, and they’ve both been tempted by their dark sides and have gone off the edge a few times. Plus, they’ve both lost people that were close to them, so they share a similar kind of pain.

Each of the heroes need their chance to stand up and find out what they’re truly fighting for (on their own, not with a team behind them), but Dinah and Laurel are so similar, yet so opposite, that the pair working together to fight crime would give them each a chance to grow.

Plus, isn’t it great to see two women actually come together and get things done instead of having unnecessary tension between them?

The dynamic between Dinah and Laurel in the early episodes of Arrow season 6 grew tired rather quickly, so hopefully with the change of leadership, there’s two women won’t have to be enemies and can use their similar abilities to become the most powerful crime fighting duo in the DCTV universe.

Arrow season 7 premieres Monday, October 15 on The CW!
