Black Sails is back on the high seas again tonight when the season 2 premiere launches on Starz at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

In case you need a refresher on where we last left various members of the cast, you can check out our full-blown Black Sails season 1 recap. If you want the short version, Gates was murdered by Flint. Billy went overboard, likely pushed by Flint. Everyone else is fairly intact stranded on an island, running a brothel, running a trading consortium, occupying a fort.

Bottom line: no matter where anyone is, it’s all about survival, revenge and power, not necessarily in that order.

There’s a new pirate in town

Ned Low (Tadhg Murphy) and his crew are new to Nassau, but he’s not new to the life of a pirate if the blinded eye and “no mercy” discussion he has with Eleanor Guthrie (Hannah New) are any indication.

In the video for Black Sails below he seems to threaten/warn Eleanor about what he is capable of. The question is, is he a match for Flint and Vane?

Speaking of Vane

Captain Charles Vane (Zach McGowan) has definitely risen from the ashes. He quite literally clawed his way back, and now he sits a top the fort frustrating those he now controls, especially Eleanor.

Oh captain, my captain

Everything has caught up with Captain Flint (Toby Stephens). He’s no longer the man in charge. The only reason he’s alive is that what remains of his crew needs every man they can get to salvage the treasure, and get off the island. In the video below, it looks like Flint has resorted to commanding a suicide mission in trade for his life.

The enemy of my enemy…

Flint and John Silver (Luke Arnold) have never been the best of friends, but at this point considering the crew want to kill them both, they need each other. Both are equally good at scheming and manipulation. The difference is that Flint is the consummate hot-head, and Silver rarely loses his cool. Can they put aside their differences, work together, and survive the suicide mission?

Oh how far we’ve fallen

Jack Rackham and Anne Bonny used to be the quartermaster and the enforcer on Captain Vane’s powerful ship. Vane didn’t count them among his friends at the fort. Now they have to see if they can turn their new lives as brothel owners into anything worthwhile. Can they do anything to get back into Vane’s good graces?
