Tonight on Black Sails season 2, episode 9 trouble is coming!

Last week we had Captain Charles Vane (Zach McGowan) pin his revenge manifesto on Richard Guthrie’s (Sean Cameron Michael) cold, dead body. This wasn’t just any body, Vane clearly tortured and strung Guthrie up from the arms on a gallows. Lord only knows if he was still alive at that point, and left to roast in the blazing sun of the fort’s courtyard.

Vane’s manifesto left little doubt of his intentions:

“You removed the girl from my possession, but in turn, the man o’war moved on from the bay. Moved on from a position of heightened security. Moved on to a place where its attention, Captain Flint’s attention, will be so very occupied on the danger that is Charles Town and in a state of apprehension, in which the last thing any of them will be watching… is the water. I made clear the price for the girl. You should have known me well enough to know, one way or another, I was going to claim it and once I do, I’ll be returning to Nassau to settle the rest of my accounts.”

Really the only question at this point is how many more people are going to die a violent death at Vane’s hands in his quest for vengeance?

The only person capable of stopping Vane is Captain James Flint (Toby Stephens). When we last left Flint he was in Charles Town away from his men. If it weren’t for Abigail Ashe’s intervention, he would already be dead. Lord Peter Ashe still hasn’t agreed to fully hear Flint out. For all we know, Flint may end up in jail or dead.

Realistically, with Flint not on his ship, it’s likely that Vane will be able to board it with his surprise attack. Most of the men left on-board are fairly green. They will never imagine that Vane would willingly enter Charles Town harbor, let alone that they’d face a surprise attack from him while they are in it.

Do you think Flint stands a chance on ‘Black Sails’?
