Tonight on Black Sails Eleanor seemed victorious, but will it last?

Eleanor to the rescue

Eleanor comes through and single-handedly rescues Abigail Ash. Admittedly, we were wrong. We didn’t think that Eleanor was going to make it out of the fortress without Vane’s men capturing her. It’s a good thing that Eleanor has willpower, determination, and strength because Abigail was completely useless, other than to hold a torch while Eleanor struggled with the bars. Seriously, could Abigail not have helped earlier? Way to be the stereotypical damsel in distress. Abigail only ended up helping after Eleanor has injured her hand, and Eleanor tells her that they are about to be discovered.

Fool me once

Charles Vane was warned by numerous people not to trust Eleanor. This isn’t so much a case of “Fool me once, shame on you,” it’s more like a case of “Keep fooling me because I’m a total idiot who’s besotted by you, keeps trusting you, and you keep screwing me over.” Vane says that this is the end between him and Eleanor, but can we believe this? She certainly is his weak spot. Right now, he has bigger concerns. He’s murdered several of his men to cover her tracks, and no doubt, the rest of his men will murder him when they find out.

The tale of Anne Bonny

We finally got part of Anne Bonny’s back story that explained why she was loyal to Jack Rackham, and why she felt so betrayed by him. Considering Jack rescued her from an abusive husband when she was 13, is it any wonder she’s stuck by him for over a decade? Where else given the situation would she have gone? Now, she’s rudderless. She doesn’t know how to do anything else. Can an alliance like Max proposes work out? For that matter, why should Anne trust Max?

Unlikely partners

Billy Bones and James Flint willingly on the same team, not even Flint can believe it. In the end it comes down to two things: 1. Billy being uncertain of what really happened on deck the night of the storm, and 2. Billy’s unwillingness to betray men for his personal freedom. Billy and Flint, for the moment, have the same goals. The question is will this change now that Flint has Abigail Ash?

Master manipulation

So, John Silver thinks he can grab all the Urca da Lima’s gold off the beach himself now that he’s manipulated the men that were to watch the gold. The thing is, Max knows him for what he is: a hustler, albeit a shrewd one, looking out for his own skin and nothing more. She may play along for awhile, but might she not get a better deal by informing Flint or Vane, and getting a cut of the action? Max is many things, but suicidal isn’t one of them. Once she’s had a chance to think, she is going to realize that there is no secure deal to be made with a two-timer like John Silver.

Black Sails still has three more episodes to go this season. That’s more than enough time for things to go very, very wrong.

Should the women trust the men of ‘Black Sails?’
