After being teased in Iron Man 2, Marvel’s rumoured Black Panther film appears to be moving forward.

Latino Review, a site which has previously given reliable information regarding Marvel films, is claiming that the movie will be released alongside Captain America 2 in 2014. The site claims that this information has come from four separate “trusted” sources at Marvel.

For those who do not know, in the comics universe, ‘Black Panther,’ or T’Challa, is the king of the fictional African country Wakanda and was one of the first black super heroes. First appearing in Fantastic Four in 1966, he possesses heightened senses (through a connection with the Wakandan god), a genius level intellect, and other abilities including combat and hunting skills. T’Challa joined the Avengers soon after his debut and has remained a regular member of the team since.

Although the film has not officially been confirmed as of yet, development has been ongoing since the early ’90s and recent developments include discussions to find writers for lesser known Marvel properties, including ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Doctor Strange,’ and the hiring of Mark Bailey to write a script. Furthermore, Wakanda was referenced on a map Nick Fury showed Tony Stark in Iron Man 2, adding credibility to reports of the film.

It is looking more and more likely that a Black Panther film will begin development soon and could likely lead directly to Avengers 2. Marvel Studios’ head Kevin Feige has already hinted that more details of ‘Phase 2’ of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be revealed later this year, so hopefully we’ll have a better idea of Marvel’s film schedule and a possible Black Panther film in the near future.
