Black Panther premiered in the domestic market to rave reviews. It’s now heading for a projected $218 million opening weekend.

Move over Fifty Shades Freed, the King has arrived.

Black Panther has already amassed $192 million over the three-day weekend, but is projected to hit $218 million-plus for the four-day holiday. That total positions it as the fifth-highest domestic opening of all time, only bested within the superhero sphere by The Avengers. However, Sunday and Monday totals could exceed projections and catapult Black Panther over The Avengers’ four-day gross.

Internationally, Black Panther made $169 million, though it has yet to open in Russia (February 22), Japan (March 1) and China (March 9), which brings its global total to $387 million.

Other records that Black Panther has broken include having the biggest opening weekend for a black director, a 97 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating (the highest for a superhero movie), and beating out Deadpool‘s $152.2 million over the four-day Presidents Day weekend in 2016.

With critical and fan reception of the film largely positive, it’s likely that we’ll see Black Panther break more records over the coming weeks. Whether that momentum will be enough to see it challenge the James Cameron juggernauts of Titanic and Avatar will remain to be seen, but it could get close.
