Marvel has found their Black Panther in Chadwick Boseman.
Marvel’s mystery Hollywood event today turned out to be the stage where they released their entire Phase 3 schedule (check out our live blog of the event).
One of the films announced was the long-rumored and finally confirmed Black Panther. The film will star Chadwick Boseman, known for his great work in the films 42, Get on Up, and Draft Day.
In the comics, Black Panther, or T’Challa, leads the high-tech African nation Wakanda. He’s also a member of the Avengers, having joined the team for the first time in 1968.
The film will be released on November 3, 2017. Currently no plot details of the film are known, but it’s expected that the film will feature him battling Ulysses Klaw, an enemy of his that is featured prominently in the comics.
The reason speculation leads to Klaw being the villain of the film is that it looks like Andy Serkis will being playing the character in Avengers: Age of Ultron. That’s who he looks like in the trailer, anyway.

At the event, Marvel did reveal that Boseman will make his debut as Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War alongside Chris Evans as Captain America and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man. When asked by Downey whose side he’d take, Boseman said, “Iron Man… Captain America.. as much as I respect you both… Black Panther is kind of his own guy.”
