Netflix gave us all some great news: Charlie Brooker’s anthology series Black Mirror has been officially renewed for a fifth season.

The Netflix program is one of the most inventive shows on television, bringing us all stories of the not-too-distant future, and the creative (and often horrifying) ways technology ruins everyone’s lives. With the franchise expanding into the traditional book world, it makes sense that we’d get a fifth season of the show.

The official Black Mirror Twitter made the renewal announcement with a quick video post that promised the future would be “brighter than ever”. At the end of the compelling and slightly unsettling video (which compelling and slightly unsettling is totally Black Mirror‘s jam), we don’t get a release date, but show does promise to “be right back.”

After its widely-praised fourth season, it’s no surprise that Netflix was quick to announce that the show was renewed. The show moved to Netflix just before its third season, and the show has only continued to improve since the move to streaming. Season 3 contained the Emmy Award-winning episode “San Junipero,” and season 4 was absolutely packed with amazing episodes like “Hang the DJ,” “Metalhead,” and “U.S.S. Callister.”

Since Netflix didn’t give us a release date, we can only guess when the show will actually return. Season 4 hit the streaming service on December 29, 2017, and season 3 released on October 21, 2016.

Based on the previous release dates since the show came to Netflix, it’s a fair guess to say season 5 will drop in fall of 2018. Whatever the release date is, we’ll be on the edge of our seat waiting for more episodes to drop!
