Black Mirror, a British science fiction show that has received lots of attention for how it looks at modern society, is getting a new season thanks to Netflix.

The streaming site has ordered 12 new episodes of Black Mirror, which will go into production later this year. The show’s deal with Netflix is fitting — its presence on Netflix is how the show was introduced to Americans.

A short teaser trailer was released Friday morning to announce the news:

“It’s all very exciting — a whole new bunch of Black Mirror episodes on the most fitting platform imaginable,” said series creator Charlie Brooker in a statement. “Netflix connects us with a global audience so that we can create bigger, stranger, more international and diverse stories than before, whilst maintaining that Black Mirror feel. I just hope none of these new story ideas come true.”

To give you a sense of how messed up the show is, here’s a synopsis of episode 1: “Princess Susannah (Lydia Wilson), a much loved member of the Royal Family, is kidnapped and the ransom demand is an unusual one; Prime Minister Michael Callow (Rory Kinnear) must have sexual intercourse with a pig on live national television. As the time starts to run out and public support rapidly disappears, Callow finds he may have no choice but to go through with the obscene act.”

Considering recent events surrounding David Cameron, we think it’s safe to say that Black Mirror sometimes hits very close to home with its ominous commentary of how technology is impacting our lives.

Netflix is the perfect home for Black Mirror. The website has a history of offering showrunners greater flexibility with their projects, which is important for an insane show like this one.

The first seven episodes of the show are currently available on Netflix.
