Black-ish fans can rest easy knowing that the Johnson family will be sticking around on ABC.

According to Variety, ABC has officially renewed their hit family sit-com, Black-ish for a sixth season.

The good news doesn’t stop there as ABC also revealed plans to expand on the Johnson family story.

Earlier this year, the series shot an episode focused entirely on Traces Ellis Ross’ Rainbow Johnson. At the time, the plan was for the episode to potentially serve as backdoor pilot for a new spinoff. Now it looks like said spinoff is officially a go.

In addition to announcing news of a seasons 6, ABC also announced that they’d given an official series order to Mixed-ish.

Starring Aricia Himmel, Tika Sumpter, Christina Anthony, Mykal-Michelle Harris, and Ethan Childress, the new spinoff will serve as a prequel series centered around Rainbow and her experiences growing up in a mixed-race family in the 1980s.

Mixed-ishwill kick off with Bow’s parents deciding to uproot their family’s lives in the hippie commune they call home to put down roots in the suburbs.

The upcoming prequel serves as the second spinoff spawned by show runner Kenya Barris’ hit comedy.

Currently, Freeform plays home to Grown-ish, which follows the adventures of Black-ish character Zoey Johnson (Yara Shahidi) as she heads off to college.

Grown-ish, which returns to Freeform with new episodes on Wednesday, June 5, has already been picked up for a third season by the cable network.

Black-ish airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on ABC.
