Watch out, Super Friends! Several formidable foes are making their way to Supergirl and The Flash.

The CW’s panel from the Television Critics Association winter press tour is like the gift that keeps on giving. In addition to several shows — including all four DC superhero series — picking up an early renewal, the villain for the musical crossover being revealed, and Constantine being revived as an animated series for CW Seed, we’re also learning about some future villains heading to The Flash and Supergirl.

First up is Black Flash, though he’s not an entirely new character. Zoom, the main antagonist of The Flash season 2, will return as the “Grim Reaper” of speedsters. Which doesn’t exactly bode well for Barry, Wally, or any of the other speedsters on the show.

“He’s a classic character, and we have storylines on multiple shows that fit having him return,” Andrew Kreisberg, executive producer of The Flash told reporters at the TCA’s. “There’s something so scary about him, even scarier than when he was just a man, because now he is the Grim Reaper, he is like the Devil. How do you stop the Devil? It presents an interesting challenge for the heroes of the respective shows in which he appears.”

Take note of Kreisberg’s “respective shows” comment, as Black Flash won’t solely be causing havoc for the heroes on The Flash, and will be appearing across several of the CW superhero shows.

As to whether Teddy Sears, who portrayed Zoom in The Flash‘s sophomore season, will also be returning, Kreisberg said, “I’m not sure. Teddy’s pretty busy with 24.” Could that mean we’ll be seeing a Zoom, or Hunter Zolomon, from another Earth, should Sears be unable to return? We’ll keep our ears to the ground for any, and all, information on the casting.

Also heading to The Flash is Solovar. Keith David will voice the leader of Gorilla City in a two-part, Grodd-centric episode. As a leader, Solovar is revered for his wisdom and psychic powers and receives no challenge to his leadership over Gorilla City — except, of course, by Grodd.

With episodes 13 and 14 dedicated to the story, we’ll be spending a significant amount of time with Grodd — though not all of it will be spent in Gorilla City itself. “One of the episodes will take place in Gorilla City [on Earth-2] and one of them will take place on Earth-1,” Kreisberg said of the episodes’ setting.

Finally, Supergirl will be coming up against another foe, as played by Once Upon a Time in Wonderland alum Peter Gadiot.

As confirmed to TV Line by The CW, Gadiot will be taking on the role of Mr. Mxyzptlk, reportedly in episode 13.

In the comics, Mr. Mxyzptlk is a reality-bending trickster, most often known for antagonizing Superman. In a similar vein to Rumpelstiltskin, Mr. Mxyzptlk can only be “defeated” by tricking him into saying his own name backwards. No small feat for Team Supergirl to achieve.

Which villain are you most excited to see on ‘The Flash’ or ‘Supergirl’?

Supergirl returns Monday, January 23 at 8 p.m. on the CW. The Flash returns Tuesday, January 24 at 8 p.m.
