Black Adam may be a solo film, but it looks like the anti-hero will be joined by some major heroes from the JSA!

Over a decade after it was first announced, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Black Adam is finally getting off the ground.

With a release date finally announced, it looks like Dwayne Johnson is now free to tease fans about what they can expect and build hype levels to maximum.

In this initial post about the upcoming film, Johnson pegged it more as an anti-hero movie rather than a supervillain film.

There were also rumors that Hawkman and Hawkgirl would feature in the movie, as well as Dr. Fate.

And while those rumors came all the way back in March, before the December 22, 2021 release date had even been revealed, it looks like there was some truth to them after all.

Dwayne Johnson revealed recently in an interview with Screenrant that a match-up against archrival Shazam “isn’t in the plans right now,” as Black Adam is “an origin story and that’s where we start it and we root it, and then we build out from there. Now, not to say Shazam isn’t on my radar. Of course Shazam is, but so is all of DC.”

And what does he mean by “all of DC?”

“JSA. We will introduce you to that, the world to JSA.”

The JSA is a precursor to that more famous superhero team — the JLA (Justice League of America) — and stands stands for the Justice Society of America. It was the first team of superheroes in comic books whose original members included Doctor Fate, Hour-Man, the Spectre, the Sandman (Wesley Dodds), the Atom (Al Pratt), the Golden Age Flash (Jay Garrick), the Golden Age Green Lantern (Alan Scott), and Hawkman (Carter Hall).

Production on Black Adam is slated to begin in June. Dwayne Johnson will star as the titular character with Jaume Collet-Serra directing. The movie is set to be released on December 22, 2021.
