The Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) trailer got us all in the mood for some mayhem!

Time to board the hype train, Birds of Prey fans!

After dropping four new gorgeous movie posters yesterday, Birds of Prey finally dropped their first full trailer and it is — in the words of one Harley Quinn — absolutely fantabulous.

It’s as bright and bold as the posters have made it out to be, while simultaneously being grounded and gritty, as is fitting for a movie set in the dingy world of Gotham City.

And while the movie posters and advertising have focused on Harley Quinn (a smart move, as most of the general audiences know nothing of the Birds of Prey), the trailer gave us our first real and glorious look at the rest of the cast of characters.

Check out the absolute mayhem of the trailer below, and be prepared to fully emerge a Birds of Prey stan.

Though Harley Quinn has often been considered the other half of a one clown prince of crime named the Joker, as we can see from the title, Birds of Prey is about her striking out on her own and coming into her own.

Free from the twisted influence of Joker, Harley becomes less true villain and more anti-hero — perhaps even hero — as she seeks to protect Cassandra Cain — played by newcomer Ella Jay Basco — from big, bad baddies Roman Sionis, aka Black Mask, played by Ewan McGregor, and Victor Zsasz, played by Chris Messina.

Along the way, she teams up with the founding members of the Birds of Prey — Helena Bertinelli aka The Huntress, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Dinah Lance aka Black Canary, played by Jurnee Smollett-Bell, along with Detective Renee Montoya, played by Rosie Perez.

The first trailer does a fantastic job drawing us into the world of Gotham, introducing the characters and giving us a hint at what this R-rated girl gang film has to offer. We can’t wait to see more from what will surely be one of the best and most unique superhero movies of 2020.

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will be released February 7, 2020.
