Recently, a shortlist was revealed for the actresses being considered for key roles in the film, and the racially diverse list had us excited. While Margot Robbie will be reprising her role as Harley Quinn, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Justina Machado were just a few of the names on the list of actresses being tested for the other heroes in the movie, giving us the refreshing reassurance that not only white women would be considered for the roles.

Happily, it seems the hype train isn’t stopping with the release of the shortlist. The Birds of Prey movie has been given a release date, and it might be heading to theaters sooner than you’d think.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Birds of Prey is set to land on February 7, 2020 in theaters and IMAX. February is becoming quite the hot month for superhero movie releases. Both Black Panther and the first Deadpool movie released in February, and both films were huge box office successes, so hopes are high for Birds of Prey.

Birds of Prey is promising to be another important step forward in representation for women in major motion pictures, and we can’t wait to see our favorite comic book heroes in action come to life on the big screen in 2020.
