Billy Eichner is writing and starring in a new romantic comedy about two men attempting a relationship despite their fear of commitment.

Billy Eichner is making an important move in the continued effort to see a wider range of stories told on the big screen. Eichner will be writing and starring in a romantic comedy about two commitment-phobe guys attempting a relationship.

According to Deadline, the movie will be produced by Judd Apatow, and Nick Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him To the Greek) will direct. There is no word yet when the film is projected to release.

Of course, while it’s exciting that we’re going to get a big screen version of Billy Eichner soon, the big news is that Universal, a major movie studio, is making a romantic movie about gay men starring (and written by) a gay man. Getting a film like this from a major movie studio is a huge step forward in representation both in front of and behind the camera, and it’s exciting to see.

Eichner took to Twitter to announce his new film and his pride over getting to tell this story. And naturally, in true Eichner fashion, he didn’t let the mushy feelings linger too long.

Eichner’s movie doesn’t have an official title yet, but this movie will certainly be one romantic comedy fans can’t miss. We’re so happy for this important step forward in representation for LGBTQIA+ individuals, and we are ready to see what hilarious adventures Eichner has in store for us in his rom com.
