Big Little Lies may be calling it quits after season 2.

We’ve still got a ways to go before Big Little Lies makes its grand return to HBO, but fans who are already looking ahead to the future of the series may not want to hold their breaths.

During a recent appearance at this year’s TCA, series creator David E. Kelley revealed that the cast and crew currently have no plans to come back for a third season.

“There’s no such plan now [to do season three],” said the creator according to Deadline. “We like our closure at the end of season two and that would probably be it.”

Nicole Kidman, who stars on the series and also serves as an executive producer, chimed in with sentiments that seemed to echo that of Kelley’s.

“This was a long shoot and we’re just amazed we’ve been offered a shot. I will say not to compare it to the first one,” said Kidman.

Despite the tone of Kelley’s comments, one important thing to note is that the fate of Big Little Lies has always been up in the air.

Fans who’ve been following the series since its inception will likely remember that the cast and crew never planned to do more than one season.

We’ll be curious to find out if season 2 feels like a good place to wrap things up, or if it’ll feel as though there’s more story left to be told.

Big Little Lies is slated to return to HBO sometime in June.
