Big Little Lies wrapped up on Sunday, April 2, but all we can think about now is the potential second season after that final shot.

Who was killed in ‘Big Little Lies’?

The seventh episode of Big Little Lies finally revealed who killed who: After Celeste refused to leave with her husband and the women came to her aide, it was Bonnie who jumped in and pushed serial abuser Perry down the stairs.

But surprisingly, that wasn’t the biggest reveal of the finale: In the same sequence we saw Jane get her first look at Perry and realize that he was the one who raped her, conceiving Ziggy.

As the show went on it seemed increasingly likely that it would be Perry who would be involved in the death, but with so many people hating each other over the course of the season, it was anyone’s guess who the victim/killer truly were.

At first we didn’t see who killed Perry, or how Bonnie did it, but the final few moments of the show mixed in the women enjoying time with their children with the big reveal (Did anyone else think they weren’t going to show it? I was disappointed until they did so).

And in the final couple seconds of season 1, we see that someone is spying on the women and their kids through bionoculars. They shut and the credits roll. WHO WAS IT?

Is there a ‘Big Little Lies’ sequel?

Clearly this is a tease for a potential Big Little Lies season 2. HBO has not ordered a second season, nor has author Liane Moriarty written a sequel*, so it’s anyone’s guess where the show could go. That said, that final shot was clearly a hint at a second season being possible, and HBO would be crazy not to renew it: It’s ratings have been killer!

Anyway, back to that final shot. Who was spying on the women? My best guess is Tori, the wife of Joseph, the Avenue Q director in love with Madeline. Tori has it in for Madeline after strongly suspecting that Joseph cheated on her with the metaphorical leader of Monterey. We know Tori was keeping a very close eye on Madeline at the party, and there’s no way she’s about to let that go. The cheating has also been eating at Madeline, who started wondering if she should tell her husband Ed the truth.

Update: As pointed out by Hypable readers, the person spying on the women was likely the detective. The big giveaway was the lighter clicking — the same noise heard when the detective was wondering why Celeste was lying during questioning.
