The first major look at Better Call Saul reveals that the colorful lawyer played by Bob Odenkirk has never had it easy.

AMC released the two-minute extended look at Better Call Saul on Saturday morning, and it introduces us to the lawyer’s world before he met Walter White.

The trailer shows that the prequel will follow Saul during his days as a struggling lawyer. He appears to be working for the county courthouse on a less than stellar salary. He meets his future companion, Mike, in a parking garage, but we still don’t know how the two guys begin working together.

The second half of the trailer shows what may be the overarching storyline in the first season: Saul is trying to get his brother Chuck (played by Michael McKean) bought out of the company he is a partner on, but the reason as to why his co-owners don’t want to go through with the sale aren’t clear. Chuck is sick, it seems, but he feels confident that he’s going to beat it and presumably go back to work.

Speaking to critics today, creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould confirmed that Walt and Jesse will not be appearing in season 1 of Better Call Saul, but “[everyone] else is on the table.”

They also explained what the show is about:

Better Call Saul begins February 8 after The Walking Dead mid-season premiere.
