Skyrim downloadable content started being added to the Xbox 360 version of the game back in June, but there’s still no date for Dawnguard‘s release on Sony’s PlayStation 3. A post by Bethesda’s community manager on the official forums did little to reassure Skyrim fans that the DLC is headed to PS3 anytime soon.

“Skyrim is a massive and dynamic game that requires a lot of resources, and things get much more complex when you’re talking about sizable content like Dawnguard,” ‘GStaff,’ Bethesda’s community lead states. “We have tried a number of things, but none of them solve the issue enough to make Dawnguard good for everyone.”

The post continues to dampen PS3 owners’ expectations: “The PS3 is a powerful system, and we’re working hard to deliver the content you guys want. Dawnguard is obviously not the only DLC we’ve been working on either, so the issues of adding content get even more complicated. This is not a problem we’re positive we can solve, but we are working together with Sony to try to bring you this content.”

At the very least, it’s clear that Bethesda is talking about a further lengthy delay in delivering Dawnguard and Hearthfire to Sony’s console. The forum post is a clear attempt to calm down the community, as evidenced by the last line. Gstaff continues: “We wish we had a more definitive answer right now. We understand the frustration when the same content is not available on all platforms. When we have an update, we will certainly let you know. We deeply appreciate all the time and support you have given us, and we’ll keep doing our best to return that.”

However, it seems that Bethesda is still wary of the community’s response to this post – the thread itself is locked.

The forum post follows Hearthfire‘s recent announcement. The new add-on will be released for Xbox 360 on September 4 for 400 MS points ($5).

Are you a PS3 owner or do you prefer the 360? Do you think Bethesda should hold off releasing DLC on other platforms until it gets the PS3 problem sorted?
