Bethesda has announced the release of a (nearly) complete collection of Elder Scrolls games for the PC, launched under the suitably epic title The Elder Scrolls Anthology.

The anthology will contain every title in the main Elder Scrolls series of open world fantasy role-playing games: Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim.

The box set also includes all official add-ons. That means that Morrowind will come with its expansion packs Bloodmoon and Tribunal, and the Elder Scrolls Construction Kit. For Oblivion, Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles are included. All Skyrim downloadable content (Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn) is also contained within the anthology.

The anthology also features five paper maps of the regions that each game takes place in.

Fans of the Elder Scrolls series will note that the collection does not include spin-off titles Redguard and Battlespire, and, more understandably Travels (a series of mobile games that first launched almost exactly ten years ago).

It must also be noted that the first two games in the series are already available to download for free from the Bethesda website. Further, the remaining games in the series are frequently reduced to almost ridiculous prices in Steam sales. It is also slightly disappointing that the highly regarded soundtracks are not included.

The Elder Scrolls Anthology releases on September 10 in North America and Australia and September 13 in Europe, for $79.99 (€59.99 / £49.99 / $89.99AUD).

If you just want to obtain all the Elder Scrolls games at the lowest price, this box set probably isn’t for you, but for collectors and Elder Scrolls fans, or those wanting physical copies of the games, then the Anthology definitely seems worth considering.

Bethesda’s blog contains more details on the anthology, including short plot summaries for each of the titles included.
