There’s no shortage of lovable boys in JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series, but in a tossup over who would make the best fictional boyfriend, there’s just no way you can’t give it up for everyone’s favorite ginger, Ron Weasley. Harry may have that swoon-worthy hero complex thing going for him, but there’s something to be said about a guy who can make you laugh with his quick witted, ever so slightly sarcastic charm.
As a boyfriend, Ron would totally be the type to make sure you didn’t take everything so seriously, and let’s face it, if you’re even slightly as high strung as Hermione can be at times, you totally need someone like Ron in your life to remind you not to sweat the small stuff! You’d never have to worry about getting along with his family if things started getting serious because the Weasleys are pretty much the best family ever — seriously, who wouldn’t want to be adopted by them?
Add on the fact that he’s fiercely loyal and unafraid to stand by his friends, even when it means putting his own life on the line, and I’d say that makes Mr. Ron Weasley quite the catch indeed! – Pamela Gocobachi
Harry Potter (‘Harry Potter’)
I’m honestly more of a Ron girl, but Harry – despite his teen angst and saving the world complex – is just a really good guy. He is the boy you want to bring home to your parents (as Ginny can definitely attest to), and not just because he’s Harry frickin’ Potter, but because he’s a genuinely nice and compassionate person.
His Gryffindor bravery also means that Harry is a lot more open about his feelings than most of the other boys in the series: he asks the girl he likes to the Yule Ball at age 14(!), he kisses his best friend’s sister in front of the whole common room, and he (gasp) actually makes an effort to understand girls’ feelings.
When he breaks up with Ginny and tells her to stay out of the war, it is not because she’s a girl (Hermione goes with him, after all), but because he is genuinely terrified of losing her – and you can’t fault him for that, even if it would have been cool to see Harry and the girl he loves fighting Voldemort side by side. Having lost his family so early in life and grown up with a horrible one, Harry has come to appreciate the importance of love, which makes him value both his friends and his makeshift family.
And the fact that he ultimately falls in love with Ginny Weasley, after years of slowly getting to know her better and seeing her grow up into a strong-willed, powerful witch, shows how much he values friendship and trust in his romantic partner. Tobias Eaton/Four (‘Divergent’)

When you first meet Four, he’s the intimidating and brooding instructor of the new Dauntless initiates, but the nickname “Four” quickly falls away as Tris falls for Tobias, in between the knife throwing lessons and maneuvering through simulations. The facade he puts up when he’s in public disappears away when it’s just the two of them. It’s refreshing when he’s open and honest with her, not holding back for fear of protecting her as the war rages throughout the books.
Above everything else, Tobias believes in Tris. He knows she is strong, but he also knows her ferocity would eventually be her downfall, but will do anything for her. We see him grapple with his darkest fears, face his abusive father both in the simulations and in real life, and we watch him become an amazing boyfriend. There are few other men you’d like to have around in a world such as post-apocalyptic Chicago. – Kristina Lintz

This catch of a man is clever and classy, rebellious and realistic. With his sharp wit and determination, Peeta is a natural leader who is man enough to let the strong lady in his life shine. Most importantly, he possesses that most underrated of human qualities: kindness. And let’s not forget that he of course BAKES, and thereby has strong baking arms.
This means that with Peeta as your boyfriend, not only will you be pretty much set for every major milestone in your life (because you will always have the best birthday cakes), but you will also get the advantage of cuddling up to his strong baking arms. But perhaps his greatest attribute is that Levi appreciates your fandom. That’s right. No questions about why you choose to spend sleepless nights fantasizing about your two favorite male characters’ unexplored romance. Even as you enter your third straight hour of fan fiction reading, Levi will meet your gaze with goofy grin, not an eye roll.

Augustus Waters is the boyfriend I always wanted and the boyfriend I was also scared to love so much. He’s sweet, he’s sarcastic, he can help introduce you to video games and make them really dirty and hysterical, and he’ll be there for you in the hard times. He’s the type of guy who’d give up his own Make-A-Wish request to make sure you got to live your life’s dream.
I’ve always wanted to see the world, and Augustus Waters is one of the boys who shares that dream. He’ll waste no time because he knows that’s the one thing he can’t give, so he makes sure that all the time you spend together is worth it.
But the one true thing that makes Augustus Waters my favorite book boyfriend is that he’ll truly love you until the very end. I’ve never loved a book boyfriend so much. – Tariq Kyle

Jem would be a fabulous boyfriend because he has incredible inner and outer strength. Despite losing his parents and being terminally ill, he still fights for those he loves with every ounce of his strength.
He pushes himself beyond his limits if it means helping Will or Tessa. Jem also knows how to truly listen and sense what others are feeling, and then put those feelings into music. What could be more amazing to have your own violin concerto played to you by Jem?
Lastly, Jem defines loyalty and staying around long-term. He sacrificed so much for the happiness of others, but he was rewarded with having what he wanted even if he had to wait more than a lifetime. – Laura Byrne Cristiano

One word is all you need to explain why Percy Jackson is the best literary boyfriend to ever exist: Tartarus. That’s right. He willingly threw himself into Tartarus rather than be separated from the love of his life. What more could you ask for in a boyfriend? In addition to that intense brand of loyalty, Percy has the sea at his command. Imagine the cruises never to be interrupted by storms, the romantic swims, the incredible sight of a Hurricane brewing that will never reach the shore.
Then there’s the talking to horses thing. If there’s one thing sexier than a guy with a six pack, it’s being kind to animals and proving that he understands them. If you throw in the romantic lunches in Italy, the stolen moments at the bottom of a lake, and the whole sacrificing himself to save humanity thing, there’s really no match to the son of Poseidon. Of all the men in A Song of Ice and Fire, yes, I’ve picked the Kingslayer, the guy who shags his sister and tossed Bran Stark out a window. But listen, guys. I’m a sucker for the anti-hero. Jaime’s not interested in politics like the rest of his family. It was for Cersei that he joined the Kingsguard, as this was their best shot to be together, even though it meant that Jaime lost his position as the Lannister heir.
He genuinely loves Tyrion, and Tyrion loves him, which should be enough of a credential for anyone, but as we read his history, it’s impossible to not feel compassion and respect for him. His redemption arc becomes clear once he loses a hand and gains an allegiance with Brienne of Tarth. It’s she who learns the truth – that Jaime was forced to kill King Aerys, and she sympathises with his motives, which he has kept secret, allowing the world to view him as arrogant and bloodthirsty.
Jaime may invent his own moral code, but he sticks to it – he is very honourable and loyal. He’s also a one-woman man – Cersei is his first and only, and he’s devastated to find out that her love for him isn’t quite as selfless.
When we last saw Jaime, he’d managed to break out of Cersei’s manipulative hold, and now, hopefully, we’ll see him turn his faithfulness to a more worthy lady, one who brings out the very best of him. – Natalie Fisher

With so many options in literary boyfriends, it is hard to choose just one, but I have to say Adrian Ivashkov from The Vampire Academy and Bloodlines series is definitely at the top of my list. Adrian Ivashkov is a royal who we first meet in Frostbite when he suggests he and Rose get naked. Not his finest moment. Adrian rocks the laid back smart ass act like no other, but underneath all the snark lies a heart of pure gold.
Adrian shows serious growth and proves that when he loves, it is with his whole heart. Example: “Because I can’t help doing it,” he said with a shrug. “And hey, if I keep loving you, maybe you’ll eventually crack and love me too. Hell, I’m pretty sure you’re already half in love with me.” In the end Adrian is loyal, sexy, and at heart, a true romantic. – Jennifer Lamoureux
