This summer was jam-packed with hackers, zombies, killers, and coke-smuggling gangsters galore, proving that the screen in your living room can be just as, if not more, valuable than the silver one at the cinemas.

So, for all of your entertainment purposes, here are five of the top shows you may have missed this summer that are perfect for your Labor Day weekend binging.

5) ‘Narcos’

This intense crime drama follows the infamous drug kingpin Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) and the notorious Medellín Cartel as they transform Columbia into the largest compound for cocaine manufacture and export. Also featuring a familiar face from Westeros Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) plays Javier Peña, a DEA agent hell-bent on dismantling Escobar and the Cartel alongside fellow DEA Steve Murphy (Boyd Holbrook).

Without giving too much away, this adrenaline pumping series is as addictive as the substance that inspired these true events. Due to its popularity, Narcos has already been renewed for a second season. You can watch the complete first season now on Netflix!

4) ‘Difficult People’

Creator and co-star Julie Klausner is exceptionally brilliant alongside Parks and Recreation guest star Billy Eichner in this witty comedy from Hulu. It follows two snarky New Yorkers desperate for a show of their own, while getting by waiting tables and live-tweeting.

Executive producer Amy Poehler brings a refreshing comedy to our homes by maintaining a satirical vibe while commenting on the culture around us such as SNL and young Youtube stars. I was enticed by the teaser and the pilot only exceeded my expectations and solidified my interest. For fans of Parks and Rec, I highly recommend this one! New episodes air Wednesdays on Hulu, while the Season 1 finale airs September 16.

3) ‘Fear The Walking Dead’

Should I say it? Dare I say it? Alright, I’ll say it: I thoroughly enjoyed this spinoff more than the original series. Granted, the first season was exceptional and damn near perfect, but in this writer’s opinion it quickly began to drop in quality. Though, I will say, the original still pulls off phenomenal episodes, the spinoff however holds much more potential.

Firstly, the series picks up before the breakout of the virus, leaving more room to explore this topic which has usually been neglected in other works featuring the walking dead. Although, even without the zombies, Fear The Walking Dead still excels in terms of drama and characterization. Featuring a new setting (Los Angeles), an array of talented and diverse actors, and a constant suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout, this is one series you simply must sink your teeth into. With only two episodes aired thus far, I’m already hooked. New episodes will resume Sunday, September 13 at 9 p.m. EST and you can catch up at amc.com

Now, for the top two TV series I have become borderline OBSESSED this summer…

2) ‘Scream’

This is the absolute best “who done it” of the summer. Scream has an exceptional breakout cast featuring the survivor girl, Willa Fitzgerald, the “mean girl,” Carlson Young (featuring what?? Depth and soul??), and the unstoppable crime fighting duo bi-curious, Audrey Jensen (Arrow’s Bex Taylor Klaus) and the virgin, Noah Foster (John Karna).

The show is unlike anything I have ever seen before. With a unique sense of a meta self-awareness (see Noah’s [Karna] speech on how to translate a slasher series to a TV series), the inclusion of new-age media, and the double entendre of the “mask” (depicting not only the physical one the killer wears but the electronic ones we wear online), MTV’s Scream is much deeper than expected.

The added benefit of stretching the slasher genre into the length of a television series allows the viewer to form a certain attachment to the characters that is unseen in its movie counterparts. The finale of Scream aired last Tuesday with a leap in viewership, while also paying tribute to the late Wes Craven (who also was an executive producer for the show, keeping the authenticity of the franchise).

It also has a jaw-dropping femme fatale twist I promise you will not see coming. Thankfully, Scream has been renewed for a second season, which will continue the story rather than follow the American Horror Story style of story telling. You can watch the pilot here and catch up with full episodes at MTV.com

1) ‘Mr. Robot’

The most talked about, controversial, must see hit of the summer and worthy of the number one spot has to go to Mr. Robot. I thought Scream’s killer twist blew my mind, but that is nothing compared to the enormity of this amazing series. Featuring a phenomenal and talented cast including Rami Malek, Christian Slater, Portia Doubleday, Carly Chaikin, and Martin Wallström, the show nails every bit of what is expected of hacker culture.

The show begins with a hack aimed to take down the most powerful force in the world: money. Through corporations, economics, and politics, we’re led to believe we’re free, but Elliot (Malek) and his elite force of hackers are here to show what true freedom really is. Covering explicit issues such as corruption (in the form of corporations and politics), lies (social networking), and marketing (essentially brainwashing), Mr. Robot strays from no topic in enforcing what has become of the world around us.

From bashing everything from Facebook to Steve Jobs (who, the show points out, made money off the backs of Chinese children using them for labor – which he even admitted to – yet is still idolized today), Mr. Robot takes on the world with a secret organization known as Fsociety and in that the show is victorious.

If there’s any one show you take away from this article, it absolutely has to be this one. The season 1 finale aired last week, receiving a unanimous 100% rating by critics, while the season as a whole scored a near perfect 98%. The series has been renewed for a second season (out of the seven season arc planned by Esmail) and you can catch up now on this spectacular cyber-thriller over at USA.com!
