An adaptation of The Gentleman’s Guide To Vice and Virtue is on the horizon at HBO Max.

According to Deadline, Mackenzie Lee’s best selling young adult novel, The Gentleman’s Guide To Vice And Virtue, is officially getting the adaptation treatment at HBO Max — and the project already has a pretty big name attached behind the scenes.

As we learned just last year, producer Greg Berlanti (Supergirl, Riverdale, Love, Simon), officially optioned the rights to Lee’s bestseller back in May. At the time, there was no network attached to the project, so it’s great to hear that the Berlanti-produced adaptation has officially found a home with HBO Max.

That Berlanti has a project coming down the pipeline at HBO Max is not as surprising as it might sound — especially given the fact that the producer signed a huge overall development and production deal with Warner Bros. Television just last year.

The $300 million deal includes a commitment to make shows across all of WB’s platforms, and given Berlanti’s impressive track record as a producer, it’s unsurprising that Warner Bros., is looking to bring some of that magic over to HBO Max.

Berlanti isn’t the only one who’s already attached to work on the adaptation.

In addition, it’s also been announced that Matthew Barry has signed on to write the script for The Gentleman’s Guide To Vice And Virtue. In addition, Sarah Schehter will produce alongside Berlanti, as well as Michael McGrath, who will serve as an executive producer.

First published in 2017, Mackenzi Lee’s novel focuses on a bisexual British Lord named Henry Monty Montague and follows along as he sets off on a grand tour of 18th century Europe along with his best friend Percy, who also happens to be his secret crush.

There’s currently no word on when we can expect The Gentleman’s Guide To Vice And Virtue to premiere on HBO Max, which is expected to launch in May of next year.
