Benedict Cumberbatch is feeling really good about Sherlock series 3, episode 3, and he’s already looking forward to future series.

In brief new comments to The Sun, the star of the detective drama says that the series 3 finale – which we learned over the weekend is titled “His Last Vow” – is “amazing.”

“I just got the script and it’s another early birthday present, because it is amazing,” he said. “I don’t want to hype it too much because we haven’t made it yet but what a script! Steven Moffat is brilliant. We shoot in about a week and a half’s time.”

Cumberbatch went on to say that they will shoot episode 3 for four weeks, wrapping in early September.

Producers have said that once the series is finished filming they will announce a premiere date, so hopefully we can begin the official countdown starting in just a few weeks.

Another interesting note: The actor appears to suggest to The Sun that he’s optioned for a fifth series of the show. “We’ve agreed to two more series but I could get into trouble for saying that,” he said.

Cumberbatch said in March that he and Freeman were optioned for series 4, but at the time he hadn’t mentioned anything about a fifth round. “Optioning” means the stars have agreed to return so long as the BBC renews the show.

At the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel last week, creator Steven Moffat said that they’re willing to run Sherlock for as long as Cumberbatch and Freeman are interested. He added that they are enjoying spending a few months a year working on the show, and spending the rest of their time on other projects.
