Benedict Cumberbatch has officially lined up his next big screen project.

According to Variety, Benedict Cumberbatch has officially signed on to star in an upcoming spy thriller titled Ironbark.

The film, which is set in the Cold War era is based on the true story of a British businessman named Greville Wynne.

Wynne and his Russian source named Oleg Penkovsky played a big role in aiding the CIA’s infiltration of the Soviet’s nuclear program.

In fact, it was Wynne and Penkovsky’s information that ultimately played a big role in ending the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Cumberbatch will be playing the role of Greville Wynne in the upcoming spy thriller. The forthcoming film is set to be directed by Dominic Cooke, who will also be executive producing the title alongside Cumberbatch and Tom O’Connor.

In addition to executive producing, O’Connor also wrote the spec script which Ironbark is being based off of.

There’s no word yet on when the film will hit theaters.

In the meantime, fans of Benedict Cumberbatch won’t be hurting for titles featuring the Doctor Strange star.

In addition to sharing the screen with a slew of other Marvel superheroes in Avengers: Infinity War, Cumberbatch has a few other projects coming down the pipeline.

The Academy Award nominee has lent his voice to Mowgli and The Grinch, both of which are set to debut later on this year.

Fans itching to see Cumberbatch back on the small screen can catch the actor in the upcoming TV mini series Patrick Melrose. The Showtime series is set to premiere on Saturday, May 12.
