A life-size chocolate mold of Benedict Cumberbatch has been erected in Britain, and passers-by can’t resist snapping off a piece.

The “Benedict Chocobatch” was created by a team of chocolatiers, to promote UKTV’s new on-demand channel Drama.

Made up of 500 bars of Belgian chocolate, the Chocobatch was erected in a British shopping center, to the amusement and puzzlement of local shoppers:

What started as an advertising campaign ended up doubling as a social experiment: cameras were left trained on the statue to catch passers-by in the act of taking pieces of the statue home… or, you know, just licking it and moving on.

It sounds (and is) disgusting, random strangers all licking the same exposed slab of chocolate, but when it’s shaped like Benedict Cumberbatch, we guess some fans find it too hard to resist!

(This really makes you think about what it’s like to be the real Benedict Cumberbatch… we’re sure some fans would lick him, too, if they had the chance!)

Check out the video released by UKTV, which shows Cumberbatch’s chocolate likeness slowly disappearing… piece by delicious piece:

It all culminates when one no-shame lady ends up chipping off the nose (which would make him Cumbermort!), but several kids have been picking off the fingers; girls stop to lick various parts of his body, and someone’s ripped off an ear… what started off as a cute marketing stunt turned into something pretty grotesque.

We wonder how Benedict Cumberbatch himself feels about this whole thing!

Now… if you could eat one piece of the Benedict Cumberbatch chocolate statue, what would it be?
