The Internet’s ’90s kids have been awash with anticipation since learning that a Boy Meets World spin-off starring Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel titled Girls Meet World is in the works.

Today Savage made a few interesting comments about its progress.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, the actor – who will play the same character as he did in Boy but in a father role – says life has been “pretty exciting” since the Girl announcement was made. Both Savage and Fishel signed on to the project on November 26. “I’ll say it was exciting and flattering that people are still so excited about the show after all this time.”

Savage says that this idea that’s moving forward is one he’s very comfortable with. However, he was a bit hesitant while ideas were being kicked around. “It wasn’t that I was resistant… I think it was just a matter of making sure all of us were on the same page about what we were going to do in terms of making the show last another seven years, hopefully,” he explained. “There were different options around of following our characters or following this. But it just seems a little poetic that we’re coming back 13 years later and it’s following our daughter’s character. I like that concept, because it’s very poetic and it’s kind of passing it off to the next generation.”

As for the possibility of Boy Meets World favorites making returns to the show, Savage is certainly not ruling the idea out. “There’s definitely been discussions about some of everyone’s favorite characters popping up in the show and making appearances,” he said before adding, “We’ll see.”

Shooting is expected to begin in February, and the crew is in the process of casting Cory and Topanga’s daughter, Riley. In the casting call she is described as “an adorable girl on the cusp of whatever comes next in life, and wanting to rush into it head first. She is fiercely loyal to her friends, and spends most of her time juggling the obstacles that life throws her way.”

We’ll continue to follow any developments on Girl Meets World as they’re unveiled. Read much more with Savage on Rolling Stone’s site.
