When Doctor Who comes back this summer, Ben Miller of Primeval and Death in Paradise fame will be joining the show.

Ben Miller has had a long career in U.K.-based television series. He is mostly an unknown to American audiences, but he’s had equal experience in dramatic and comedic roles.

Miller is a huge Doctor Who fan who is thrilled to be on set. In fact, the BBC might not be able to ever get him off the set. He stated, “As a committed Whovian I cannot believe my luck in joining the Twelfth Doctor for one of his inaugural adventures. My only worry is that they’ll make me leave the set when I’m not filming.”

Miller is not the only newbie to join the upcoming series. The BBC previously announced that Samuel Anderson will be playing Danny Pink in a recurring role. He will be a teacher at the Coal Hill school where Clara is employed.

Showrunner Steven Moffat added, “Mark Gatiss has written us a storming villain for his new episode, and with Capaldi in the TARDIS, we knew we needed somebody special to send everybody behind the sofa. And quite frankly, it’s about time Ben Miller was in Doctor Who!”

What if any connection Miller’s character has to the character to be played by DaVinci’s Demons‘ actor Tom Riley remains to be seen. Mark Gatiss has been credited as originating both Miller and Riley’s characters.

It should be a very exciting year for Doctor Who as the show will be filming in the U.S.A. later this year. It was previously announced that Keeley Hawes would be playing a villain called Ms Delphox. She will be in the U.S.A. for filming. No word if the other recently announced guest stars will do the same.
