If a new rumor is to be believed, Ben Mendelsohn could soon been joining Felicity Jones in Star Wars: Rogue One.

The ever reputable Deadline is reporting that terrific actor Ben Mendelsohn is “circling” a lead role in the first Star Wars spinoff film Star Wars: Rogue One.

So far, the Star Wars: Rogue One casting rumors and announcements have been very exciting. The film got a very promising start when Felicity Jones was officially announced as the first actor to join the film. Though we don’t know her role, it’s assumedly a pretty big one. Rumors have suggested that the cast could be rather large, but casting her first hints that the character is pretty important.

The potential casting of Mendelsohn would be very exciting. He’s done amazing work throughout his career, and this would certainly be his big breakout role. Mendelsohn currently stars in Bloodline, the latest drama to premiere on Netflix, and he’s incredible in it. He’s also famous for parts in The Dark Knight Rises, Exodus: Gods and Kings, Killing Them Softly, The Place Beyond the Pines, and many, many more.

Star Wars: Rogue One will be directed by Godzilla helmer Gareth Edwards from a script by Chris Weitz who was nominated for an Oscar for his About a Boy screenplay. Previously Gary Whitta had worked on the script.

The idea for the Rogue One story came from John Knoll, an Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor and chief creative officer at Industrial Light & Magic. He, Simon Emanuel (The Dark Knight Rises, Fast & Furious 6), and Jason McGatlin (Tintin, War of the Worlds) will executive produce. Star Wars: The Force Awakens producer Kathleen Kennedy will produce with Tony To (Band of Brothers, The Pacific). John Swartz (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) will co-produce.

As previously revealed, Star Wars: Rogue One will hit theaters on December 16, 2016. It will start shooting this summer in London, and more of the cast should be revealed between now and then.
