Ben Affleck recently sat down for an interview and revealed some new details about Batman Vs. Superman. Most importantly, Affleck points out that he doesn’t see himself competing with Christian Bale’s version of Batman.

When asked about the Man of Steel sequel, Affleck reveals that he doesn’t “want to give away too much, but the idea for the new Batman is to redefine him in a way that doesn’t compete with Bale and Christopher Nolan’s Batman.”

Affleck says that he and director Zack Snyder plan to create a character that “still exists within the Batman canon…It will be an older and wiser version, particularly as he relates to Henry Cavill’s Superman character.”

Affleck also revealed that he wasn’t that interested in playing Batman when Warner Bros. first approached him. The actor says, “When they asked if I would be Batman, I told them I don’t see myself in the role and I was going to have to beg off.” After some time discussing the character and film with Snyder and the film’s writer David S. Goyer, Affleck was reportedly won over.

Affleck went on to say that, “They said I’d fit well into how they were going to approach the character and asked me to look at what the writer-director, Zack Snyder, was doing. The stuff was incredible.”

He also says that he was excited to hear such a unique take on the character while remaining unique to the comic mythology. He says that once fans see it on the big screen, “it will make more sense than it does now or even than it did to me initially.”

Affleck later opened up about the internet bombshell that went down after it was announced he’d been cast as Batman. He says it brought back the feelings he had about Daredevil and how it was “the only movie I actually regret…It just kills me. I love that story, that character, and the fact that it got fucked up the way it did stays with me.”

He continued saying that maybe his motivation to play Batman is partly due to the fact that he feels Daredevil was so poorly received.

Henry Cavill has also been discussing the Man of Steel sequel, saying that while he doesn’t know what story will be told next, there’s a good chance that Lex Luthor will be introduced at some point. While we had heard this before, it’s nice to hear the main actor reaffirm rumors that bubbled when the sequel was announced.

As noted in the video interview, Cavill also points out that a cyborg could be entering the universe as well, which he says would be a way to bridge humans to Superman.

As for the new villain that may or may not be joining the cast, it’s been reported that Doomsday, one of Superman’s arch enemies, will be one of the villains in the film.

The rumor was started by Daniel Alter, who works with Warner Bros., but is not working on Batman Vs. Superman. He also reported that Wonder Woman and Nightwing rumors are true and that Super Woman will definitely be making an appearance.

Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman, Ben Affleck will play Batman, and director Zack Snyder, writer David S. Goyer, and producer Christopher Nolan will all be included in the currently unnamed project, which has been given a July 17, 2015 release date.
