It looks like Ben Affleck will be suiting back up as Batman one last time after all— but not for a new solo film.

According to Vanity Fair, Ben Affleck is gearing up to reprise his role as Gotham’s resident caped crusader.

Affleck won’t be doing so as part of another Batman solo flick, however. Instead, the actor is set to play the crime fighter as part of Warner Brothers’ forthcoming The Flash film.

Set to be released in 2022, The Flash will find Ezra Miller reprising his Justice League role in a solo film that’ll explore DC’s Flashpoint comic series.

As part of Barry Allen’s journey in the film, he’ll be catapulted into various parallel dimensions where he’ll cross paths with quite a few familiar faces from the DC universe.

One of those faces, specifically, will be that of Ben Affleck’s take on Batman.

It Chapter 2 helmer Andy Muschietti, who is on board to serve as director for The Flash confirmed Affleck’s involvement in the film in a brand new interview with Vanity Fair.

Specifically Muschietti teased that Affleck’s role is “a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie.”

“The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before,” said Muschietti. “It’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.”

Ben Affleck isn’t the only one returning to the role as part of The Flash.

In the same interview, Muschietti also confirmed that Michael Keaton is also on board to step back into the DCEU universe. Keaton donned the cape in director Tim Burton’s 1989 take on the masked vigilante. While Muschietti didn’t offer up more information on what we can expect from Keaton’s Batman’s interaction with Barry Allen, the director did tease that his will be a “substantial” part.

The Flash sprints into theaters in 2022.
