Reports of a Beetlejuice sequel have been around for the last few years, but now Winona Ryder has revealed that she will be playing Lydia in Beetlejuice 2.

Winona Ryder was on Late Night with Seth Meyers and revealed that she and Tim Burton are set to make a sequel to the incredibly popular film Beetlejuice. Myers said that the original is a timeless film, which is most likely why the film’s legacy has lasted so long. Read what the actress said below:

“I think I can confirm it because Tim Burton did this interview,” Ryder told Meyers. “It was very hush-hush, top secret, ‘I don’t know what may happen, I don’t know,’ and then he was doing some press for Big Eyes and he did an on-camera interview and he said, ‘Oh yeah, we’re doing it and Winona’s gonna be in it.’ So can I say…? I mean if he said it. But I really don’t know much more than anybody else.”

Last year Michael Keaton, who also starred in the original, said that he had been talking to director Tim Burton about making a sequel. Read his response below:

“I always said that it’s the one thing I’d like to do again, if I ever did anything again. But it kind of required Tim to be involved some way or another. Now it looks like he is involved. And without giving too much away, we’ve talked to each other, and emailed each other, and if he’s in, it’s going to be hard not to be in.”

It’s exciting that it’s back in the news, as the original was such a great film. The interview with Ryder showed that she was very excited about the potential of a Beetlejuice sequel.

We look forward to hearing from director Tim Burton in the coming weeks if there’s any truth to these new reports about a sequel to the 1988 movie.
