The Perks of Being a Wallflower author and screenwriter Stephen Chbosky is reportedly working on the script for Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast.

EW says two sources have confirmed to them this news, but Disney did not want to comment for their story.

The live-action Beauty and the Beast will be helmed by Bill Condon, the director of the final two Twilight movies, as well as an upcoming Sherlock film starring Ian McKellen.

Chbosky’s involvement may suggest they want to improve the love story and make sure it appeals to a Young Adult audience. Besides his own Perks, he also wrote the screenplay for the 2005 movie musical Rent.

As noted by EW, Perks of Being a Wallflower co-star Emma Watson is currently attached to Warner Bros.’ live-action Beauty of the Beast. That project is looking less and less likely to take off following the departure of the film’s original director Guillermo Del Toro.

Given Watson’s friendship with Chbosky thanks to Perks, perhaps the actress could jump projects. By doing so, she’d be joining a list of high-profile actresses who are currently starring in live-action Disney fairy tales, including Angelina Jolie (Maleficent), Anna Kendrick (Cinderella in Into the Woods), and Lily James (Cinderella).

One thing’s for sure: Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast is getting more and more interesting.
