The book to film adaptation of Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl’s Beautiful Creatures had a brand new trailer released today. It offers strong performances from its cast and a very intriguing premise.

The fantasy young adult novel was published in December 2009 and is set in South Carolina. It is told from the perspective of lead character Ethan when he awakes from a recurring dream about an unknown girl. After meeting the girl, who joins his school, the two learn dark secrets about their respective families and town.

In this Beautiful Creatures trailer you’ll see stars Alden Ehrenreich (Ethan), Alice Englert (Lena), Emma Thompson (Mrs. Lincoln), Viola Davis (Amma) and Jeremy Irons (Macon Ravenwood) amongst others. We’re liking what we see so far, though a couple of the special effects (the table spinning and the tornado) looked like they could be improved. Otherwise, the acting appears strong and we’re excited for this film’s February 13, 2013 release.

UPDATE: At the request of Warner Bros., this trailer has been removed.

Last month Hypable interviewed Ehrenreich and Zoey Deutch (Emily) at New York Comic-Con. The former actor talked about the need to put on a southern accent for the role. “We made certain determinations, like when he’s with his friends, there’s a certain language they speak and the accent would be stronger,” Ehrenreich said. “And then when he’s with Lena, and he goes to New York, that will change. I mean we definitely made choices about the dialect, but I think it modulates depending on who he’s with, which mask he’s showing for the world. That guy is genius and helped us so much. Understanding the culture that this story takes place in has a lot to do with how it’s done.”
