It’s time for fans to bid farewell to NBC’s police drama, Shades of Blue.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the Jennifer Lopez lead drama Shades of Blue is officially coming to a close.

NBC revealed that the series would be wrapping up after its forthcoming third and final season in a statement released on Wednesday (April 4).

Lopez, who stars in the drama as detective Harlee Santos, also released a statement detailing how much she’s enjoyed playing the “empowering yet flawed character [who is] a woman, a detective but first and foremost a mother.”

“Now looking at it with a little distance, playing Harlee strengthened me and helped me grow into a more self-assured woman,” said Lopez who also serves as executive producer on the series. “It’s crazy how some parts permeate your soul and change you forever and for that I am grateful.”

In the statement Lopez also went on to assure fans that the cast and crew have made sure to plan an ending to Harlee’s story that’ll be fitting for her character.

“We crafted a poetic three-season arc on how her journey ends, which is true redemption the way only Harlee could have done it— the hard way, the road less travelled,” continued Lopez. “I thank NBC and all the talented actors, writers, crew and producers for going on this journey with us.”

As sad as we’re sure fans of the series will be to find out that this summer’s third season will be its last, it’s great to hear that the Shades of Blue crew have figured out a way to deliver an ending that sounds like it’ll be pretty satisfying to viewers.

Meanwhile, the end of the series also bodes well for fans of Jennifer Lopez and a few other big projects the actress and singer has got on her plate.

Most notably, we reported earlier this year that NBC’s highly anticipated production of Bye Bye Birdie Live! has been pushed back not once, but twice because of Lopez’s incredibly busy schedule.

Bye Bye Birdie Live! is a big undertaking for Lopez, who’ll be producing and starring in the event, so it’s understandable that both she and NBC want to make sure she’s got enough time for the production to go off without a hitch before they nail down a premiere date.

Perhaps now that Lopez has a bit more free time on her plate, we’ll finally get the live production sometime during it’s new tentative premiere date of 2019.

Shades of Blue‘s third and final season is set to premiere on June 17 at 10 p.m. on NBC.
