Although BBC America’s new historical drama series The Musketeers doesn’t premiere until 2014, a promotional image has been released showing the main cast!

We have previously reported that the BBC has picked up The Musketeers, based on the classic tale by Alexandre Dumas, and will begin airing episodes of the drama series in 2014.

The series will star Merlin‘s Santiago Cabrera as Aramis, with Tom Burke (Athos), Howard Charles (Porthos) and Skins star Luke Pasqualino (D’Artagnan) making up the rest of the triangle of four.

This first look image show the four Musketeers in costume (from left to right: Cabrera, Burke, Pasqualino, Charles), with Pasqualino as the clear frontrunner:

This placement makes sense, seeing as most adaptations begin when the three Musketeers are joined by the fourth, younger, idealistic D’Artagnan. It is likely that this will be the case here, as in the 2011 movie starring Logan Lerman.

Read the description of The Musketeers released by the BBC:

Created by Adrian Hodgesthe series is set on the streets of seventeenth century Paris, where law and order is more an idea than reality.  More than King Louis XIII’s personal bodyguards, Athos, Aramis and Porthos stand resolutely for social justice, for honor, for valor, for love – and for the thrill of it.

The series will also star Peter Capaldi as the villainous Cardinal Richelieu.

Are you looking forward to seeing ‘The Musketeers’ when it premieres next year?
