Ahead of its March premiere, BBC America has released a great clip from Broadchurch season 2.

Spoiler warning (though, is it really a spoiler if the network chose to release this?)

The clip sets up the focus of Broadchurch season 2: The aftermath of who killed Danny Latimer. The person who is widely believed to have killed Danny, Joe Miller (Matthew Gravelle) is about to face sentencing.

As you probably remember, Joe is the husband of DS Ellie Miller (Olivia Coleman), who is the partner of DI Alex Hardy (David Tennant). You can tell that even though Ellie is there in court, she’s not idyllically standing by her man as she icly says “don’t look at me” when Joe turns to her for emotional support.

Also in the courtroom to witness the proceedings are Danny Latimer’s surviving family members: his very pregnant mother Beth (Jodie Whittaker), his father Mark (Andrew Buchan), and his older sister Chloe (Charlotte Beaumont). They are also accompanied by Mark’s partner in his plumbing business, Nigel “Nige” Carter (Joe Sims).

Sitting apart, but also there as witnesses, are the town vicar Rev. Paul Cotes (Arthur Darvill), owner of the local inn Becca Fisher (Simone McAullay), and the representatives of the local Broadchurch press Olly Stevens (Jonathan Bailey) and Maggie Radcliffe (Carolyn Pickles). Noticeably absent are the London press who seem to have moved on to more scandalous pastures, but no doubt they will be back.

Watch below:

Joe shockingly pleads not guilty in court. This surprises everyone in the courtroom, including his own legal representation, as they were all under the impression that Joe was going to admit guilt thereby avoiding a lengthy investigation and trial. Cue the three-ring-circus that will begin in this sleepy town all over again.

This plot twist will obviously set up a lot of drama for season 2. Why is Joe pleading not guilty? How will detectives Alec and Ellie prove he killed Danny?

Broadchurch season 2 premiered last Monday in the U.K.
