Yesterday, BBC America announced they will be canceling Dirk Gently after two seasons.

Fans were well aware that the show was at a risk of being canceled, and had been working hard to campaign for the show’s renewal. You might have seen #SaveDirkGently swirling about social media with significant intensity since the show’s season 2 finale on December 16.

Unfortunately, despite epic efforts from the fandom, BBC America made the decision to cancel the show. In an official statement on their website, BBC America said:

“We’ve seen your passionate social campaigns for another season of Dirk Gently and we regret to say that Season 2 will be the last season on BBC America.

We have been so inspired by your rowdy imagination, your wild passion and whip-smart humor. Dirk Gently fans aren’t just great fans, they’re great friends, too. Thank you, Dirk Gently fans, for everything.”

Of course, it’s not like Dirk Gently fans to give up easily, so there is an intense campaign to get Netflix to pick up the show. In addition to petitions, pleas to watch and re-watch the show when it hits Netflix in January have gone out from fans, cast, and crew alike.

Netflix has yet to comment if they would be interesting in renewing the show, but they would likely need to see high viewing numbers of the show to consider saving it from cancellation. However, fans are gearing up for a massive re-watch to show Netflix their interest in the coming year. We’ll see what happens!

However, even if the show isn’t saved by another network or streaming service, Dirk Gently has enjoyed two of the weirdest, most delightful seasons on television. We’ll miss you, Dirk.
