The first trailer for Baywatch with Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario and Priyanka Chopra is here. And it’s… something.

Dwayne Johnson is all over the reboot train, from Baywatch to Jumanji — in which Karen Gillan, incidentally, also looks like a Baywatch character.

Here’s the first trailer for the former, which features original TV series star Pamela Anderson along with a new crop of young, hot lifeguards whose primary characteristics appear to be that they’re young, hot lifeguards.

But wait! Eyes up here, because there’s also a plot! It enters the scene in the form of Zac Efron, who is brought in to help re-brand the lifeguard department. There’s fiery boat drama, an awesome villain played by Quantico‘s Priyanka Chopra, and… oh, okay, you can watch the trailer now:

In all seriousness, we’re feeling a lot more optimistic about the Baywatch trailer after seeing the tongue-in-cheek, over-the-top, upbeat trailer. This is clearly a comedic spin on the classic series, and honestly, that’s probably the only way you could do a Baywatch movie today.

And in that context, this movie doesn’t look any more gratuitous than similar comedies like Neighbors or or Dirty Grandpa (or any other recent Zac Efron comedy, let’s be honest), and actually seems like it attempts to address some of the issues with the original.

There’s a fair bit of 21 Jump Street DNA thrown in there too, evident in the buddy-cop detective work Johnson and Efron decide to embark upon, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Alright Johnson, you reeled us in. Now let’s see if you can keep us on the hook until Baywatch splashes into cinemas on May 19, 2017.

The movie is directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) and also stars Angelique Kenney, Charlotte McKinney, Kelly Rohrbach, Ilfenesh Hadera and Hannibal Buress.
