Though word has been mum on Bayonetta 3 ever since the title’s announcement, the game’s development team has recently commented on what players can expect out of the Umbra Witch’s third installment.

Bayonetta 3 was announced at The Game Awards 2017 with a flashy teaser trailer, but not much has been said about the action game’s development since. When will Bayonetta 3 come out? What will Bayonetta 3 be about?

Thankfully, PlatinumGames studio head Atshushi Inaba has finally given us first word on how the development of Bayonetta 3 is fairing.

Speaking in an interview with Video Game Chronicle, Inaba commented that his team is “in the middle of designing something that has never been done before. I know a lot of people say that, but the game we’re working on truly is unlike anything else.”

The game he is likely referencing is Bayonetta 3, a Nintendo Switch exclusive sequel set to followup after the events of 2014’s Bayonetta 2.

“Even for our varied history of veteran game developers, this is something that has never been designed before,” continued Inaba.

Inaba went on to speak of the noticeable differences players will see when playing through Bayonetta 3. He also commented on how much of a “pain” and “hassle” it was to have to go through a level-by-level design process for the previous two Bayonetta titles.

In speaking of the speed at which the Bayonetta titles were developed, Inaba stated that “in the case of Bayonetta it took a lot of time and energy to get it to the point where sequels could be made. It wasn’t as simple as picking up the phone and asking, ‘Hey, can we do this?’ There were a lot of pieces that needed to fall into place and a lot of negotiating that had to occur.”

It’s Inaba’s hope that Bayonetta 3 will be developed at a “faster” pace, according to how the game’s development team sees as being the most efficient.

While a release date of 2019 was originally announced for Bayonetta 3, Nintendo has since given the title a TBA release date.
