Batwoman isn’t just coming to The CW in a supporting role: she’s getting her own series.

We previously reported that Batwoman would be introduced in this year’s big Arrowverse crossover. But that will only serve as a stepping stone to her own solo series.

Greg Berlanti, the mastermind behind the other Arrowverse properties, will be joining forces with Caroline Dries of The Vampire Diaries as well as Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns as executive producers. Dries will pen the script.

The official logline for the series reads as follows:

Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

Additionally, TVLine reports that Batwoman will be seeking an out lesbian actress to play the titular role.

If it moves to series, likely in 2019, Batwoman will be the sixth DC superhero property on The CW, joining Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and Black Lightning.
